The Story of Stuff

A short film that sums it all up... A must-watch - The Story of Stuff
The above quote is from Victor Lebow, an American Retail Analyst after WWII.
Perceived obsolescence is becoming a part of the perfume world as well, unfortunately. Limited edition fragrances, and creating the impression that scents don't keep as long and should be discarded after 1 year are only two examples... So even as perfume users, we can be more careful and thoughtful about how and what we shop...

Changes...

A few changes are upcoming to the collection of ready-to-wear perfumes at Ayala Moriel. We will welcome a few new scents this year (and each will receive the full attention when it is made available); but also need to say goodbye to a few scents that just didn't seem to make the mark and remain in the permanent collection. You will still be able to enjoy them but will have to order a larger quantity for that - a minimum of the flacon + refill size.

So, this is a farewell to the following perfumes - once the current stock of samples and bottles is gone, they will be only made upon special order:

Altruism
Arsenal
Ayala
Coeli
Democracy
Guilt
Magnolia Petal
Yellow

Another change is in the price - the US dollar is down and I have been losing a lot of money since than because my website prices are all in US dollars. Unfortunately, the price has to go up, from $100 to $110 for parfum extrait flacons. Hope you will understand and continue to support my business despite this increase :)

New Collectibles

Check out AyalaMoriel.com for the two new collectibles - a carnelian poison ring filled with Palas Atena solid perfume, and a beautiful vintage pillbox with carnation illustration, bearing within the solid perfume version of my new soilflore, InCarnation.

Non-Celebrity Perfume

Haven't even finished compiling my wishes for 2008, and one of them is already coming true. There will probably still be too many celebrity perfumes in 2008, but at least this story of a perfume inspired by a real woman and a non-celebrity might warm your heart.

Thanks to Ida Meister and Neil Morris for helping to shift the balance of power from faceless jus to one with passion. I haven't smelled Le Parfum D'Ida yet, but having been inspired by a lady of our own breed - the infamous perfumista who bears the screen name Chaya Ruchama frequents SmellyBlog as well as my own virtual shop - I see no reason for it to be another run-of-the-mill olfactory disappointment... She also happens to be a nurse by profession, a mother and a wife, and the chances you'll see her on the front of a tabloid flaunting her love interest or drug abuse are near to none.

Changing the World, One Nose At A Time

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a lady who is what most perfumistas call a "perfume hater". Her email passionately inquired how can I live with myself being part of an industry so full of toxic, carcinogenic chemicals that threat the well-being of humans and the environment.

As I try to do with all correspondence that lands on desk, I answered her questions patiently and with the least judgment possible for her point of view, trying to educate without being to prissy and preachy... That seemed to be the right thing to do, because about a week later, she took the plunge and against her common sense, she bought perfume - a sample package to share with her friends and family - to make up for lost olfactory time so to speak... Not only that, she even posted about it on her anti-perfume blog, titled You Stink!

Today, I received another email from her, with a link to her review of Rebellius - the one perfume that won her heart from the selection of samples she tried, and I have to say, there couldn't be a better way to start this new year of perfume, with new hopes that perfume will gain better reputation even among its "enemies".
